Chinese graveyard located in Gilgit, the capital city of the Gilgit–Baltistan region in northern Pakistan. Located in the village of Danyor in Gilgit District about 10 kilometers across the Gilgit River, the cemetery is the final resting place of Chinese workers and engineers who died during the construction of the Karakoram Highway (KKH) in Pakistan in the 1960s and 1970s.
The Karakoram Highway is the only road connecting China and Pakistan. Construction of the highway started in 1959, transforming the lives of local residents. In the city of Gilgit, there is a cemetery of 88 Chinese workers who died while building the highway. Manzure Madad and Ali Ahmad stand guard at the Chinese cemetery, just like Manzure's father did for decades before him. They hope that their sons will also continue their work, so as to carry on the friendship between China and Pakistan.
