Researcher working in Australia this past November captured rare footage of one of the aquatic creatures releasing his young in the wild.
They discovered the very pregnant seahorse while working off the coast of New South Wales.
Said one of the team members, “I had just finished getting his measurements and a baby shot out of the opening. So we sat back and watched the father for a while.”
When seahorses reproduce, the female inserts her eggs into the male who then fertilizes and carries the young.
Births involve the release of up to roughly 250 babies at a time.
