Areas in the west of Ireland continued to experience severe flooding on December 10, days after Storm Desmond brought heavy rain to the country.
In Athlone, on the banks of the River Shannon, raw sewage reportedly spread onto the streets as water levels continued to rise, and residents and authorities were working to prevent further damage to homes and businesses.
