The results from the first round of the regional elections are in and the verdict is clear: the far-right National Front scored a historic victory. The National Front came out on top in nearly half of France’s 13 regions, while the ruling socialists secured a majority of the votes in only three regions and the opposition conservatives in four. This is likely to change in the second round of votes next Sunday. But one thing will not change: the National Front is the number one party in France.
