MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TENNESSEE — Two pilots from Fort Campbell Army base in Kentucky were killed in a helicopter crash around 7 p.m. on Wednesday, The Tennessean reported. The Apache AH-64D helicopter crashed while on a routine training mission. The cause of the crash has not been determined, and the identities of the two pilots have not been released, but the crash was confirmed by Fort Campbell Spokesman Major Allen Hill in a report by The Tennessean. Montgomery County Emergency Management Agency Director Jerry Buchanan told The Tennessean that the helicopter crashed into a river bottom and was on fire when rescue workers arrived at the scene. Between 30 to 40 emergency personnel responded to the crash site. An investigation into the incident has been handed over to the U.S. Army Combat Readiness Center at Fort Campbell.
