This week marks the first win in a racial discrimination case in the history of Peru, when the bosses of Azucena Asunción Algendones were sentenced to three years of imprisonment and a fine of US$1500. Three years ago the Afro-Peruvian woman was the victim of racial verbal attacks at her job in a water plant in central Peru, where officials failed to address the discrimination. Another 150 cases of racial discrimination have been registered by the Ministry of Culture, but that number is expected to increase with the historic precedent set in this case. Rael Mora reports from Lima for teleSUR.
