BILOXI, MISSISSIPPI — A Waffle House in Mississippi was the site of a murder at around 1 a.m. on November 26. Biloxi police say a man shot a waitress dead for explaining the restaurant was a non-smoking establishment.

The man, 45-year-old Johnny Max Mount, was at a Waffle House restaurant located on US-90 near the Mississippi Coast Coliseum. He was smoking a cigarette inside at the time, until a waitress told him smoking wasn't allowed in the restaurant.

The two reportedly got into an argument over the cigarette, which led Mount to walk out of the restaurant and head to his car. Police say Mount then retrieved a handgun from his car and proceeded to go back into the Waffle House and shoot the waitress in the head.

The 52-year-old woman was rushed to Merit Health Biloxi medical center, where she was pronounced dead from a gunshot wound to the head.

A spokesman for the nationwide restaurant chain released a statement to WLOX NEWS:

"This senseless tragedy is a shock for the Waffle House family. Julie was a friend to many as well as a valued member of the Waffle House team. She will be greatly missed. Our prayers are with her family, friends, co-workers and customers."

45-year old Johnny Max Mount is being held at the Harrison County Adult Detention Center on a $2 million bond. He is being charged with first degree murder.
