Kosova ka rreth 1 milionë e 739 mije banore rezidente, nga te cilët 93%, i përkasin kombësisë shqiptare ndërsa 1.5 % janë serb. Komuniteti boshnjak zë numrin me te madh te banoreve rezident ne Kosove, i ndjekur nga komuniteti serb dhe ai turk. Këto janë shifrat zyrtare te publikuara sot ne një konference ndërkombëtare ku u shpallen rezultatet përfundimtare te regjistrimit te popullsie se Kosovës. Ne këtë shifër sikurse pritej nuk janë përfshirë banoret e komunave me shumice serbe, te Zveçanit, Zubin Potokut, Leposavicit dhe Mitrovices se Veriut, ku regjistrimi i popullsie ka qene i pamundur.
Zëvendëskryeministrja e Kosovës Edita Tahiri tha se regjistrimi i cili kryhet pas 3 dekadash është një ngjarje historike. I pyetur nga gazetaret nëse Serbia do te lejohet te përfshije ne regjistrimin e saj te popullsisë edhe banoret e veriut te Kosovës, përfaqësuesi i Be-se Samuel Sbogar dha ketë përgjigje: "Kjo eshte nje pyetje hipotetike, por une nuk shikoj ndonjë përpjekje te Serbisë për ta bere një gjë te tille. Edhe kur u zhvilluan zgjedhjet serbe, qëndrimi i Be-se ishte i qarte se Serbia nuk mund ti zhvilloje zgjedhjet ne Kosove. Presim qe Serbia te mbaje te njëjtin qëndrim edhe për regjistrimin e popullsisë." Statistikat e publikuara gjete kësaj konference kane konstatuar një rënie te numrit te natalitetit gjate dekadës se fundit. Regjistrimi i popullsisë se Kosovës ka nisur me 1 Prill te vitit 2011 dhe ka zgjatur për 15 dite.
