Footage has emerged from the US of a humpback whale off the coast of California slapping its pectoral fin into the sea and breaching the surface, apparently to show off for the camera above it.

The video, filmed off Newport Beach towards the end of October, shows the whale hanging around at the surface, which it reportedly did for more than an hour.
