Over the weekend, Facebook took another shot at the online video and news space, this time using its biggest asset, Instagram. On Saturday, the photo sharing service soft launched a video channel of its own, that displayed curated video content related to Halloween celebrations. However, what Facebook indicated of its future video plans is anything but cute.
The new feature was visible to Instagram users only in the US if they checked the app during Halloween. The channel was on for 24 hours that selected, curated, and showcased the very best and most popular posts by users across the social platform. It is more likely that Instagram wanted to check the response for such a curated video channel, for a future broader roll out, to make it a permanent feature. For the coming months, it seems likely that the company plans on opening up the channel every once in a while during different holiday seasons.
