A special congressional committee has unanimously approved Proposed Constitutional Amendment (PEC) 215, which addresses the demarcation of indigenous lands. Land demarcation now falls under the jurisdiction of the National Indigenous Foundation, the Ministry of Justice and the Presidency. PEC215, however, gives jurisdiction to the national Congress, which is controlled by the conservative majority with ties to rural landowners. The proposed amendment also denies the expansion of land that has already been delimited. The approval of both houses of Congress is necessary for the passage of PEC215. teleSUR
