The U.S. Coast Guard facilitated the rescue of a French mariner and the cat tucked into his jacket.

A foundering sailboat has been lost to the depths, but the French sailor and his cat are safe and sound. 
"La Chimere" was headed for California when strong winds and waves laid those plans to waste. 
The sailor sent out a distress signal that was picked up by the U.S. Coast Guard.
