Powerful footage has emerged of tornadoes hitting southern China, as Typhoon Mujigae ravaged several parts of Guangdong Province on Sunday.

According to mainland media reports, at least five people were killed during the storms and nearly 200 people were injured.

Typhoon Mujigae is reportedly the most powerful tropical storm in history to hit Guangdong in October, with wind speeds reaching more than 100mph.

Tornadoes were recorded and filmed in at least three separate districts, downing power lines and disrupting the water supply and transport infrastructure.

Plans for emergency power and water have been put in place by the authorities.

Thousands of people flocked to Guangdong over the weekend for China's National Day holiday.
