Except for that seven-year hiatus when General Motors pulled the plug on the Camaro after the 2002 model year — only to see the pony car resurrected in 2009 — there has been an ongoing Hatfields and McCoys-style feud with Ford’s Mustang for performance bragging rights since the Chevy’s debut in late 1966. It’s been fought on drag strips, race circuits and streets, and each car’s fan base is fiercely loyal.
Given the opportunity to put Ford’s new 2015 Mustang GT up against the Camaro SS at Calabogie Motorsports Park, I realized that no matter what the outcome or what I say, the diehards from the “losing” side would be ready with a never-ending supply of “yeah, buts…” So, I will employ Captain James T. Kirk’s Kobayashi Maru gambit and try to cheat my way out of this no-win situation.
