The Denver District Attorney's Office released video of the fatal police shooting of Paul Castaway, after deciding not to file criminal charges against the officer involved.
The July 12th shooting of Castaway by Officer Michael Traudt was ruled justifiable because "Castaway's actions and the statements he made suggest he had decided to die and further decided that Officer Traudt would be the instrument of his demise,"according a letter by District Attorney Mitch Morrissey. "Officer Traudt's
decision to fire his pistol was, under these circumstances objectively
reasonable and appropriate. Indeed,Castaway gave him no other choice."
Castaway was shot on July 12 in the Capital City Mobile Home Park on West Kentucky Avenue. Police had responded after Castaway's mother called to say he had threatened her and injured her with a knife. Police opened fire after Castaway advanced on them with a knife.
