There has been a show of support across Europe for migrants and refugees.
In Athens, hundreds marched through the city, chanting slogans urging the government to do more to allow people to cross into Europe safely.
In Madrid, thousands of people headed towards the foreign ministry. They chanted “no refugee is illegal” and “no more deaths at the borders.”
“Keeping borders as barriers for natural migration of people is an aberration in the 21st century,” said one Madrid demonstrator.
There has also been show of solidarity in London.
Protesters, including human rights campaigners and politicians, marched to Parliament Square.
“It’s a shame, a horrible shame, that this government, which is one of the richest governments and countries in the world, is not understanding really what’s happening to the people,” said a British-Serbian woman, who joined the London rally.
