Aung Zaw is the founder and editor-in-chief of The Irrawaddy, an independent news organization focused on Burma. Zaw ran the Irrawaddy from exile in Thailand for nearly two decades. In 2012, The Irrawaddy was invited to return to Burma where, despite continued threats and intimidation it provides critical news and investigative journalism. Zaw was the 2014 Committee to Protect Journalists’ International Press Freedom Awardee. CPJ lists Burma as the 9th most censored country for journalists in the world.
