Suicidal man saved: hero North Carolina cop disarms suicidal man with knife - TomoNews

ROANOKE RAPIDS, NORTH CAROLINA — Recently released police body cam footage shows the dramatic moments an officer confronts and disarms a suicidal man in possession of a knife.

According to the Roanoke Rapids Daily Herald, Officer Jamie Hardy was checking the home of David Bundy who had edly taken drugs, was off of his prescription medication and was feeling suicidal.

Things soon took a turn when Officer Hardy suspects from Bundy's behavior and body language that something is off. Bundy admits to Hardy in the footage that he has a knife in his possession and wants to cut himself with it.

As both his hands were restraining Bundy, Officer Hardy couldn't access his radio. He asked an onlooker to dial 911 and ask for backup.

He continues talking with Bundy, but things soon escalate and Hardy is forced to put him on the ground, getting rid of the knife in the process.

The incident, recorded at the end of July, resulted in no serious injuries.

"If it weren't for him, I wouldn't be here today," Bundy told WRAL. "He saved my life." He added that he was back on his medication.
