Following the first round of Guatemala’s presidential elections in which comedian Jimmy Morales came out ahead, teleSUR interviews independent journalist Jeff Abbot about the meaning of this victory. Abbot comments that Morales presented himself as an anti-establishment candidate and played on the deep desire of the Guatemalan people for something different. Morales is a ”front man” for military forces who is not trusted by the people and represents “more of the same.” Abbot sees this win as indicative of a deeper crisis and, perhaps, of a bigger movement for change. teleSUR
