In Ecuador, children who were formerly obliged to work in the fields, in private homes or on the streets of Quito now have a different life. Community projects and government programs are working to rescue children working in dangerous conditions and provide them with food, housing and education. Unicef reports that child labor has dropped from 15.4% in 2001 to 2.6% in 2013. Ecuador’s 2008 Constitution prohibits child labor and works to achieve its total eradication by 2017.
