A stunning video has emerged of a humpback whale leaping through the waters near Arcachon bay, France.

The footage, shot late last month by local fishermen, shows the creature jumping from the water a short distance away from their small boat.

The clip caused great local interest as the area's not known for the creatures - with the filmer Olivier Van Canneyt (a marine project manager) saying they were on the increase around the European coast.
