Responding to calls from broad sectors of Guatemalan society, President Otto Perez Molina tendered his resignation yesterday. His decision comes a day after a congressional vote to strip him of his impunity to face corruption changes. A federal judge has already issued an arrest warrant. In his letter of resignation Perez continued to insist on his innocence and his press offices attributed the congressional vote to legislators' desire to win reelection in this Sunday's elections. teleSUR
