The Ukrainian President has visited those injured in Monday’s violent clashes in Kiev.
The authorities now say three police officers were killed.
141 people were injured, some seriously.
Officer Roman Perekos was one of them: “Everything started when protesters began to beat police officers with wooden batons with nails in them. Then I heard a grenade exploding. When I came round, my arm was broken and my leg was bleeding.”
Nationalists clashed with police as the parliament in Kyiv debated granting more autonomy to the disputed regions in the east.
The Euronews correspondent in Kyiv, Maria Korenyuk, said: “The Prosecutor’s office has already launched criminal proceedings regarding the violent events outside the Ukrainian Parliament. Police detained 18 people, including a person suspected of throwing a grenade at police officers. Ukraine’s Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk called for life imprisonment for the person found responsible.”
