Astronauts at the International Space Station have put some of the yeasts and bacteria used in the making of Kombucha tea outdoors to see how well it survives in space.

Kombucha, an effervescent fermented tea, is said by many to be a powerful health elixir. 
Though such claims aren’t entirely substantiated, what will soon be known is how well it weathers the ravages of space.
Astronauts have put some of the yeasts and bacteria used in the making of the tea on the exterior of the International Space Station.
The samples are completely unprotected, and thus will likely encounter all sorts of cosmic radiation, extreme temperatures, and unfiltered sunlight throughout the experiment’s 18-month duration.
