In real combat in the streets, inexperienced people fail to realize how deadly a confrontation can turn quick. You can have a sport fighter who is so used to fighting in the ring who mistakenly thinks that it will be a fair fight on the streets, next then you know he gets stomped on by 3 people. Or he thinks he has the upper hand because he is "trained" up until his attacker ends up introducing a knife into the fight, next thing you know this "experienced" fighter is dead because in whatever combat sport he practiced knife fighting was never introduced into the training.

A Martial Artist trains for survival, fighters train to win games, it is a completely different way of training and outlook on the Arts. When you train in the Martial Arts, you learn to be more humble, you start to realize how easily your life can be taken away even by those whom are untrained. When you train as a fighter, you have this false sense of perception that you are indestructible and superhuman, that you are the best in the world, that you are a great protector, you become arrogant, you develop a very strong destructive ego. The Martial Artist compared to the Fighter are diametrically opposed.
