A legislative committee in Guatemala has recommended that President Otto Perez Molina be stripped of his immunity in order to allow his prosecution for leading a corruption scandal. UN investigators say Perez Molina and former Vice President Roxana Baldetti ran the ring in which bribes were paid in exchange for reduced customs duties. Baldetti was arrested last week and nearly half of the country’s Cabinet has resigned. In order to strip Perez of his immunity, 105 out of 150 lawmakers must vote to do so. The former general has denied involvement in the scheme and refuses to resign. teleSUR
