Coordinators of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac) met in Quito on Thursday and Friday to strengthen regional cooperation and integration. Statements were released in support of the return of the Guantanamo Naval Base territory to Cuba and the need for dialogue in the current political crisis in Guatemala. Celac also wants to strengthen ties with China, Russia, Japan and other countries. At the Celac-China summit last January, China promised to invest US$65 billion in the region. Delegates also discussed achievement of the goals of the 2020 Agenda. Liz Sherffius reports from Quito for teleSUR
