Suspects in Austria migrant lorry tragedy appear in Hungary court

Four men accused of involvement in the trafficking of 71 migrants found dead in a lorry in Austria have been brought before a court in Hungary.

The men – three Bulgarians and an Afghan – were given one month’s detention pending further proceedings.

The case was heard in Kecskemet in central Hungary as prosecutors believe the truck began its journey from the city.

One refugee from Syria told Reuters he was shocked to hear about the tragedy just days after he and his family took the same route to Vienna.

“We don’t know what the car, maybe it’s a truck, maybe it’s a van. And we have to follow him because on his area, he is the boss and if you don’t continue with him there is, I don’t know in English, gangsters, they are there, between the woods. They catch everyone and they took everything you have,” he said.
