Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has confirmed the capture of three leaders of paramilitary organizations inside Venezuela. The arrests came as part of the operations underway to secure the country’s border with Colombia. Maduro accused the paramilitaries and their backers, such as ex Colombian President Alvaro Uribe, of being behind the massive smuggling of subsidized food, fuel and medicine out of Venezuela to sell it at a higher price. On Wednesday ministers of both the Venezuelan and Colombian governments met to discuss how to fight crime along their border. teleSUR
