Local sources say that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has resigned as the head of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) Executive Committee during a meeting in Ramallah. This was followed by the resignation of over half of the 18-member committee to pave the way for the election of new officials. Top Fatah officials say that there have been no resignations but that an urgent call has been made to elect a new Executive Committee. Speculation abounds over who will succeed Abbas as President of the PLO, and by default, the Palestinian Authority. Noor Harazeen reports for teleSUR.
