The proposed Youth Parliament to seek views, suggestions and aspirations of youths is expected to be set up at end
2012 or early 2013.

Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek said the proposal has to receive approval from the top management and undergo several processes.

They include approval from Cabinet, Cabinet Committee on Youth Development, amending Act 668, announcing Youth Parliament and Youth Parliament Implementation Workshop and set up an Implementation Committee.

"Parliament will also have to publicise and call for application of representatives, selection of representatives by an election committee, first session (trial), submit a report and hold an Improvement Workshop for Youth
Parliament." Shabery told a press conference at Parliament lobby here today that Youth

Parliament will also enact its acts if needed. Debate will involve communities such as socio-economic or human capital with isues like unemployment, housing, education and environment.

"The debate are based on issues and not party policies No political parties will be involved as this is not the government."

Youth Parliament is expected to help educate and develop the democratic process as youths will be exposed at an early age.

"We will become a bridge to link Youth Parliament with the Cabinet and Parliament," he said.

The Youth Parliament proposal was made by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak when opening the One Million Youth Gathering to mark National Youth Day 2011 at Putrajaya on May 28.
