Hi, this is Dr. Agustin Gonzalez, your eye doctor in Richardson TX.

People often ask me, what are eye floaters - are they normal? Eye floaters are the small specks that you see in your vision when you're looking at an even colored background.

Typically, cells inside the eye die, and these cells remain floating in the liquid of the eye, and we see a shadow as the light comes through the eye. These, for the most part, tend to be normal, but we want to make sure that nothing is killing those cells.

My recommendation to you is to come in for an eye exam, we'll dilate your eyes and see what's going on. It's really important. You don't want to dismiss something that you might think is normal when it might be an eye disease.

Now that you understand what those "floaty things" in your eye are, check out some of the technology that we use in our Richardson TX clinic to perform an eye exam. https://youtu.be/mmIUWgItX6M
