Influx of illegal immigrants has been a thorny issue in Sabah for the past few decade. In a recent population and housing census report for 2010, the economic planning unit announced that 27% of Sabah's population are foreigners.

Recently, Member of Parliament for Beaufort, Lajim Ukin has come out in the open to criticize his former comrades on the handling of the illegal immigrant issue.
