The Universiti Malaya Centre for Democracy and Elections (Umcedel) today pressed on with its forum on election, albeit some amendments, after being pressured by the government to abort it.
Umcedel director Mohammad Redzuan Othman told the audience at the forum today that the instruction had come from the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) and the Higher Education Ministry.
"When I returned from London two weeks ago, I received a text message asking that it be cancelled.
"I was told this was an instruction from PMO and the Higher Education Ministry... no reason was given," he told the lecture hall in UM, Kuala Lumpur this morning.
