New research has found that land in some of the most biodiverse areas is being converted in order to keep up with the rising demand for meat.

Meat consumption isn’t just the source of health problems; it could also lead to widespread species extinction, according to a recently published study.
Areas with the most biological diversity like the Amazon rain forest are experiencing high levels of agricultural expansion in order to accommodate the growing demand for meat. 
The study notes that more than 75 percent of the deforested terrain in the vicinity has been turned into areas to raise livestock animals.
