Opposition protests continued in Ecuador on Sunday, although the number of participants was down. Some of the protests turned violent, with 11 soldiers and police injured by gunfire when trying to remove a roadblock in Morona Santiago province and 80 policemen were injured in other parts of the country. Government supporters charge that the protests seek to destabilize the country. President Rafael Correa said that while the right to demonstrate must be respected, protests must be non-violent. teleSUR
