President Rafael Correa has called on people to respect and defend democracy as opposition forces go ahead with plans for a march on Thursday. An 8-day march organized by the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Mexico (Conaie) has now arrived, just south of the capital city of Quito. Organizers had called for an indigenous uprising but the march has been much smaller than expected and some chapters of the confederation, as well as other indigenous and Afro-Ecuadorean organizations have refused to support the mobilization. teleSUR
