Commander Álvaro Juarez Vazquez of the 27th Infantry Battalion based in Iguala, Guerrero, was removed from his post on Tuesday. Jaurez Vazquez was Commander of the base last September 26, when the Ayotzinapa students were attacked and forcibly disappeared by Iguala police. Families, students, human rights defenders and the National Commission on Human Rights are demanding an investigation of the role of the military in the disappearances. On July 15, Juarez Vazquez ordered the dispersal of students and families seeking to enter the base to search for the youth. It was the second time protesters have been fired upon with teargas and rubber bullets. Clayton Conn reports from Mexico for teleSUR.
