Lee Lee-nam is a media artist who's best known for bringing to life some of the most famous classical paintings such as Mona Lisa, Girl with a Pearl Earring, and Mukjukdo. We went to Juknokwon in Damyang to meet the innovative artist, whose works such as the "New Mukjukdo (New Ink Painting of Bamboos)" will be on display at the media art center of Juknokwon in time for the World Bamboo Fair Damyang Korea 2015.The sculpture major shifted his focus toward media art in 1997 when he became fascinated with animation and computer graphics. Using screens and monitors as canvases, he has been breaking down the barriers between the digital and analog platforms, Eastern and Western traditions, and the past and present. He has also captivated the masses with artworks that make modern art and media art easier to approach for the average laymen. This year, Lee Lee-nam submitted his works for Personal Structures, an annual exhibition held at the Venice Biennale where legendary artists have been participating year after year. The world-class artist also served as the art director for the 2015 Gwangju Summer Universiade, where he presented the beauty of Korean and the local culture and received praise for burnishing the image of Gwangju, the "City of Light."
