Cultural centre in ruins months after Charlie Hebdo riots

In mid-January, violence erupted in Niger's southern city of Zinder, sparked by the post-attack edition of French satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo. The front cover showed a weeping Prophet Mohammed, which many Muslims saw as an insult. Churches, Christian schools and a Franco-Nigerien cultural centre were attacked. Six months on, our reporter Ben Barnier returned to Zinder, where the scars of destruction remain everywhere to be seen.
