The European Commission has unveiled its strategy to deal with the constant influx of refugees and asylum seekers. One of its key ideas is to spread the burden among all EU members ... with the Union's foreign policy chief making sure the message was loud and clear during her speech.

What Brussels wants to introduce is called the mandatory migrant qouta system. It means immigrants arriving in Europe will be automatically relocated to different parts of the continent.

Brussels will decide how many go to which country, based on population, GDP, the unemployment rate and the number of refugees already accepted. The plan is meeting angry opposition in the UK, where immigration was one of the most contentious issues in the campaigning ahead of last week's general election.
