French company Areva presented its newest generation of robots designed to replace men in nuclear power plants. According to Areva's announcement, the robot called RIANA (Robot for Investigations and Assessments of Nuclear Areas) is capable of operating in radioactive areas to map, taking samples and measuring radioactivity. On the motorized platform, measurement or sampling modules can be interchanged dependent on the situation. The tool is also equipped with 3D and thermal cameras, as well as laser detectors, in order to help it negotiate its way around obstacles.
