Mithun Chakraborty, the original dancing jack of bollywood turns 64 today.
Mithun Da or Dada, as he is fondly called, made his acting debut with 'Mrigayaa' for which he won his first Nation Award for best Actor.
He began as a dancer and went on to establish himself as a popular actor, particularly recognized for his role as the street dancer Jimmy in the 1982 Bollywood movie 'Disco Dancer' where he became a household name for his role. He later won two more National Awards for his performances in Tahader Katha (1992) & Swami Vivekananda.
Mithun ruled the Bollywood industry during the 1980s with his releases like 'Shaukeen' 'Jaal' and 'Hum Paanch'.
The man introduced pop culture in the nation and made everyone groove with his ‘disco dancer’ persona. He is considered as the actor to bring in the martial arts form in the Indian cine-world.
His good looks and amazing acting skills are loved by everyone. He is one of the most celebrated actor of his time. His noteworthy performances are in movies like 'Disco', 'Ghulami', 'Pyar Jhukta Nahi', 'Agneepath', 'Guru', 'Hum Paanch' and 'Swami Vivekananda'. If regional films are included, then Mithun Chakraborty can be said to have appeared in over 300 films.
Mithun not only ruled the big screen but he also made television audience grooves with his moves when he appeared as the head judge of the dance reality shor 'Dance India Dance'. He hosts the reality game show named ‘Dadagiri Unlimited’ and is the grand master of ‘Dance India Dance Li’l Masters’ on a channel called Zee Bangla/Zee TV.
Mithun is also a Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament from All India Trinamool Congress.
