Euclid Tsakalotos has been sworn in as Greece’s new finance minister after Yanis Varoufakis resigned.

Analysts say the 55-year-old, who speaks Greek with a British accent, offers a completely different style to that of his predecessor.

He was previously the chief negotiator with international creditors.

Meanwhile the country’s political leaders issued a joint statement after a day of talks.

“The prime minister has received in writing the assurance of the political leaders that he enjoys their full support in the negotiations with the European Union,” Panos Kammenos, leader of the Independent Greeks Party told euronews.

Euronews correspondent Stamatis Giannisis reported:
“It took almost seven hours to Alexis Tsipras in order to gain the support of most opposition leaders but the question now is whether he will be able to convince his European counterparts and lenders who are expecting him in Brussels on Sunday evening not with the friendliest intentions.”
