The Syrian Army has begun a counter-attack against Islamic State forces with the intention of cutting their supply lines. The army operation was supported by Kurdish protection units defending the western and northern neighborhoods of Hasaka, allowing the Syrian Army to concentrate on the southwestern front with cover from Syrian war planes.
