Peru: Protests Continue in Support of Islay Workers

Protesters in Peru are denouncing the state of emergency called by the government over a month ago in response to mass protests against the Tia Maria mining project in the Islay province. Another march has been called for July 9 by labor unions and farming communities. The CEO of Southern Copper Corporation, Oscar Gonzalez Rocha, has avoided justice for causing environmental damage after a judge ruled that the 77 year-old man is “too old to be put in prison.”
