Pine needles with resin in them accumulate on the forest floor at a stream-side camp in the western Himalaya. A setting such as this can be the prefect recipe for a forest fire. If porters, campers or villagers were to carelessly abandon a lit match on this carpet of pine needles, the entire forest would be aflame and hundreds of valuable forests trees would be lost apart from habitat for nesting birds and breeding wildlife species.
