NASA has entered into a joint agreement with a Department of Energy group to explore nuclear options which could help defend Earth against approaching asteroids and comets.

The U.S. has taken a further step in the development of nuclear weapons. But the effort isn’t to defend against military attacks; instead, it's to prevent large asteroids and comets from crashing into Earth. 

According to a recent New York Times report, NASA and the Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration have entered into a joint agreement to work together to prevent such calamities from happening.
