Guatemala's Constitutional Court issued a ruling temporary suspending proceedings against President Otto Perez Molina. A congressional investigating committee had been considering whether to strip Perez of immunity from prosecution in relation to the corruption scandal rocking the country. The head of the committee resigned yesterday and is facing charges that he himself was involved in fraud and corruption. Perez failed to appear before Congress on Thursday as ordered by the investigating committee, and instead sent a written statement that failed to address the main accusations leveled against him.
