The political crisis in Guatemala deepens with the refusal of President Otto Perez Molina to appear before Congress in the investigation of a corruption scandal that has rocked his administration. He says that instead of appearing, he will send a document stating that there are no grounds for the allegations against him. At the same time the chairman of the congressional investigatory commission has also stepped down in the face of charges that he himself is involved in corruption. Guatemala’s Attorney General had requested that the Supreme Court lift presidential immunity in the case to further the investigation. teleSUR
